Seth has announced Squidoo is into profit.

And here’s a neat tidbit: We’re profitable. We haven’t raised any VC money, and now we shouldn’t ever have to. This means that we can continue to run the company for our lensmasters, for the people who surf by and for the charities we support, instead of focusing on meeting quarterly earnings targets.

This is such good news, when so many entrepreneurs I speak to think you need piles of cash to succeed Squidoo proves it’s possible with a good idea and some hard work.

2008 won’t be a year to get VC easily, those who can get some traction, understand advertising 2.0 and burn lean will see off their competitors and still be around in 2009, probably with VC’s fighting over them.

For me VC is a bit like Nitrous Oxide in a car, it will help you get there a hell of a lot faster, but put it in a dodgy motor and it will blow up all the same.
