Mike Butcher reports on Rummble and asks
In the US right now there is a shake-out happening amongst sites which allow people to create local reviews…does the shakeout in the US provide an indication of where the UK is headed - full article.
I think it’s inevitable. Maybe it’s a matter of timing, these local review sites are really just niches of the social network market, they are fighting for consumers time against the big networks, Facebook, MySpace, etc.
You could argue that to succeed will require real focus on a very small subset of benefits to a very small percentage of consumers, preferably combining something they are passionate about or a process they are often involved in.
Too many are trying to differentiate their way to the top, a difficult and expensive game, if they can however focus on the right group of people they could steal a march on the big boys and with time build a useful user base.
It’s all a matter of consumer keyboard time and how much of it you can get.
