Last year I was having a conversation with a guy who’s team were putting together a salesforce.com killer - I’m not sure if they have launched yet, but it will have to go some to even pull a thread on saleforce’s jumper.
While jumping through some blogs today, in the long tail, I came across a great little article written by Steve Gershik, Director of Marketing Innovation at Eloqua Corporation, titled Salesforce.com - Gutsy Viral Marketers

So what makes Salesforce’s marketing team so successful?
Exactly, they have exploded into the market, Steve points to three reasons they’ve done well
- They let customers do the selling for them.
- They make customers into heroes.
- They stage magnificent in-person events.
It’s well worth a read.
